A friend in need, indeed
KUALA LUMPUR:Christine Tan Lee Ling's voice choked, and tears streaked down her cheeks as she remembered what her classmate Jeanette Tan did for her.
As she wipe her tears away, Christine, who was low vision, related how Jeanette had helped her in class, making it possible for her to become one of 11 top STPM scorers in the country.
"I could not see the blackboard and couldn't read small print. She would sit by me and read out what was written on the board and help me understand what was in the textbook,"said Christine, who scored five straight As but was still saddend because her friend had only managed four.
"I would not have made it as a top scorer if it was for her help. I am sad that I scored 5 As and she only managed to get 4 As and one A-minus.
"I will never forget her help. I am going to treat her to a big dinner after this," said Christine yesterday.
Christine, from SMK (P) Temenggong Ibrahim in Batu Pahat, was among the top 11 students in the country who scored As in every single paper that they took for each of their five subjects.
"I am surprised to be among the top 11 as I was nominated for the low vision top student category initially," said Christine, who plans to study law with Jeanette.
Jeanette, however, was satisifed with her result.
"There is no thinking twice about helping her. We are good friends since primary school and we do everything together," she said.
